Why This Matters

Clean water is the lifeblood of community health

In Pakistan’s most water-scarce regions, access to clean water is the lifeblood of community health, economic stability, and climate resilience. Charity Doings Foundation (CDF) is at the forefront of tackling water scarcity by implementing a comprehensive portfolio of sustainable water infrastructure projects. With a strategic focus on the arid landscapes of South Punjab, Sindh, and Balochistan, our interventions are designed to provide safe, reliable, and accessible water for drinking, sanitation, and livelihoods. To date, CDF has successfully installed over 1,320 water projects, each tailored to the specific needs of the community it serves.

Core Program Components & Statistics

The right solution for each context

Our multi-faceted approach ensures that we deploy the right solution for each unique environmental and social context. The breakdown of our key installations includes:

01

Community Water Wells

A total of 520 hand pumps (both small and large) have been installed, providing decentralized, easy access to groundwater for thousands of households.

02

Large-Scale Water Plants

To serve entire villages and larger community clusters, 215 large water plants have been established, often powered by solar energy to ensure sustainability and low operational costs.

03

Advanced Water Purification

In areas where groundwater is brackish or contaminated, CDF has installed 36 Reverse Osmosis (RO) plants. These facilities provide purified, safe drinking water, protecting communities from waterborne diseases.

04

Supporting Community & Faith Hubs

Recognizing the importance of water for sanitation and religious practice, CDF has constructed 16 to 28 ablution places (Wudu Khanas) at mosques and community centers. Public water coolers are also installed to provide cool drinking water in shared spaces.

Animal-Inclusive Hydration

A One Health approach

A signature feature of all CDF water projects is the integration of animal-inclusive hydration points. Every water plant and well includes dedicated troughs or stations for livestock, working animals, and wildlife. This One Health philosophy is critical in our operational areas, where human and animal lives are deeply intertwined. This design reduces conflict over scarce water resources, supports the pastoral livelihoods central to the local economy, and provides a lifeline for stray and wild animals during extreme heat and drought.

Overall Output and Impact

Less time at the well, more resilience at home

Expected benefits include reduced time and cost spent on water collection, improved household hydration and hygiene practices, stronger resilience during heatwaves and drought periods, and decreased pressure on unsafe or contaminated water sources.

For animal-owning households and communities with stray and working animals, dedicated hydration stations help prevent dehydration, reduce disease risk, and protect livelihoods dependent on livestock.
