Veterinary Services & Livestock Support

Building Healthier Animals and Stronger Communities

Healthy animals are essential to healthy communities. For rural families, livestock can be closely tied to food security, income, and everyday life. CDF works to strengthen local capacity by providing veterinary support, practical knowledge, and resources for responsible animal care.

Why This Matters

Preparing for Stress & Disaster

Animals can become especially vulnerable during floods, droughts, extreme weather, and other emergencies. Our training helps communities understand how to protect and care for their animals when conditions become difficult. Families learn how to move livestock to safer ground, store fodder and clean water ahead of a crisis, and spot early signs of heat stress, dehydration, and disease. They also learn basic first aid to treat injured animals before a vet can arrive. When communities are prepared, fewer animals are lost and families recover faster.

Bringing Support Closer to Communities

CDF is also working to establish smaller, community-managed animal shelters and sheds, helping ensure that animal care and expertise are available closer to the people who need them.

These local spaces give animals shade, shelter, and safety during heatwaves and floods, and trained community volunteers can step in quickly when help is needed. Because local people run them, the shelters keep working long after the emergency ends. Your support helps us train more communities, build more shelters, and protect more animals before the next disaster strikes.
