Food Security

Growing Food Security, Strengthening Communities

Charity Doings Foundation supports practical community-based solutions that help families become more involved in growing their own food. Through kitchen gardening and skills development, CDF works to strengthen household food production while creating opportunities for women to develop valuable agricultural skills.

Growing Food at Home

For families with limited resources, a kitchen garden can provide a practical way to grow fresh produce close to home. It can make better use of available space while giving households greater involvement in producing some of the food they consume.

CDF’s Community Gardens initiative has established 850 kitchen gardens, helping families develop small-scale food-growing opportunities within their communities.

These gardens are part of a broader approach to food security that focuses not only on providing food, but also on helping communities develop practical ways to produce it.

Skill for Women

Empowering Women Through Skills

Women play an important role in household food security, particularly when they have access to the knowledge and resources needed to grow and manage food crops.

Through its Community Gardens initiative, CDF has trained 180 women in practical kitchen-gardening skills. The training helps participants develop knowledge that can be applied within their own households and communities.

By combining skills development with access to kitchen gardens, the initiative creates an opportunity for women to contribute directly to healthier and more resilient household food systems.

Stronger Communities Through Food Security

A community with stronger food systems is better positioned to respond to periods of hardship. By supporting kitchen gardens and training women in practical food-growing skills, CDF works to create greater capacity within communities rather than relying only on short-term support.

Through 850 kitchen gardens established and 180 women trained, the Community Gardens initiative represents a practical step toward healthier, more self-reliant communities.

Food security is not only about having enough food today. It is about helping families build the knowledge, skills and opportunities they need to contribute to a more secure food future.

Greener Communities, Sustainable Future

Food security is about ensuring that families and communities have reliable access to enough nutritious food. For vulnerable households, limited income, poverty and difficult living conditions can make it challenging to maintain a consistent supply of fresh and healthy food.
