THE IMPACT OF PROJECT DASTARKUWAN

THE IMPACT OF PROJECT DASTARKUWAN

Poverty and unemployment remain among the most daunting challenges faced by Pakistan today, with a poverty rate of 39% and an unemployment rate of 4.7%. Despite recent technological, economic, and industrial growth, a great number of people continue to struggle to make ends meet in their daily lives. This is further exacerbated by the large income gap between demographic segments, rising inflation, and rapidly depleting food and water resources, making survival a despairing trial for many.

The Syed Zamir Jafri Foundation, Muazzam Ali Shaheed Welfare Trust, and Charity Doings Foundation jointly initiated Project Dastarkhuwan to provide free, hygienic meals to those in need, without any discrimination based on race, gender or religion. The project is currently being executed in three locations in Islamabad and caters to more than 200 people at a time. The project upholds principles of quality, consistency and indiscrimination in providing an expression of empathy and charity from those who can to those who are in need.
